To support the Sumter County Schools Literacy Initiative, Ms. Carolyn Harris' Reading Support students participated in a read-aloud book study with the book "Snowflakes" by Martha E.H. Rustad. By reading this book, which is written in English and Spanish, students worked to build their ability to comprehend more complex texts. One of the students taught the class how to say snowflakes (copos de nieve) in Spanish. Students also learned facts about snowflakes from the book. After reading the book, students created 3-D paper snowflakes to display in the classroom.
"I liked learning how to say snowflakes in Spanish," says Carlie Terry. "It was really fun to make the snowflakes, too!"
