Message from Mae Mills, Principal

Greetings Students, Parents, and Community Members,

I am privileged to have been selected as the new Principal of Sumter County Middle School. To share a little about me; I was born and raised in Lyons, Georgia. I attended Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia, where in 1996 I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. In 2007, I obtained a Masters of Education in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Walden University. And, in the Summer of 2017, I obtained an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. I bring with me twenty-one years of successful classroom experience. I have also served as lead teacher, Junior Varsity basketball coach and Elementary School Assistant Principal. I am now enthusiastic about becoming an integral “community” member and Principal here at Sumter County Middle School.

I will be a team player in supporting the mission of Sumter County Schools in seeing that all students graduate college and career ready. Working as a team with students, staff, stakeholders, and parents, we can only excel beyond expectations.

During this 2018-2019 School year, please take advantage of opportunities to participate in your child’s education. Home and school connection helps students to understand that we work as a team to meet the needs of each student. If there is anything that we can do to better assist you here at SCMS, please do not hesitate to call or sent us a note. I look forward to an awesome year at Sumter County Middle School where we “Work to Excel”.
